Serve Recognized by Fast Company as One of the Most Innovative Social Media Brands

Fast Company’s March issue features its annual ranking of the top 50 of the world’s most innovative companies, and we’re thrilled that American Express has been recognized as a “top 10” company in two areas – finance and social media!

American Express is the only traditional credit card company that made it in Fast Company’s finance list. And we can’t help but celebrate over the praise specific to Serve, as we’re Fast Company’s number six pick in the social media category, alongside leading social media brands such as Facebook, LinkedIn, Tumblr and Disqus. Check out what Fast Company had to say about us:

For iterating like a startup. Last March, AmEx announced Serve, a PayPal-like mobile platform that lets users send and store money, without funneling it through banks. More recently, it launched a new deals platform that automatically credits users’ statements (as opposed to making store clerks take coupons) and offers in-depth analytics to retailers.

We’ve been hard at work in building Serve’s social presence via this blog, as well as our Facebook and Twitter pages, with the goal of providing open channels to encourage communication with people like you – to address your questions, and for us to share information about what we’re up to. As we’ve said time and time again, we want to hear from you about how we can evolve and improve the Serve platform, and we want to provide you the channels to give us this feedback.

In addition to our social media efforts, the Serve platform itself is inherently social, facilitating the exchange of funds not only with retailers, but in social situations as well. While a payments platform may not naturally come to mind the way Facebook does when people think about social media, Serve’s peer-to-peer payment functionality is as social as it gets. I may be biased, but I can’t imagine going back to the “old days” of frustration with friends not having cash at dinner and a restaurant not accepting multiple cards. It’s so easy for the people without cash to instantly transfer the funds to whoever pays the bill via Serve!
