Summertime and the living’s easy…but doesn’t have to be expensive!
As summer quickly approaches, we couldn’t be more excited for warm nights and backyard barbecues. However one thing we aren’t too thrilled about is the cost of the cookouts. Barbecues must haves are not cheap.
Besides good friends and good weather, we’ve listed out a few additional backyard cookout essentials that you are going to need to purchase for your gatherings this summer. Assuming you’ve already got your grill ready – whether it’s a hibachi or high end gas grill – our must haves include: hot dogs, hamburgers, chicken wings, buns, potato salad, watermelon, chips, beer, soda, paper plates, napkins, utensils and brownies. This list can easily run up to $150.00 for a group of 20 people, and if you go for steak instead of hot dogs and hamburgers, you’re looking at upward of $200 easily.
We hear you; you want to host a backyard barbecue but not worry about reducing the number of invitations or skimping on the food. Luckily, you don’t have to let the cost stop you from throwing a rocking cookout… or even five cookouts this summer! Serve makes breaking up the expenses and having all your barbecue attendees contribute to the cost incredibly easy.
In addition to helping you cut costs, here are some of our favorite hamburger secrets, channeling our favorite chefs:
- Tip 1: Make your burgers stand out with unique ingredients. Our personal favorite recipe is Chef Bobby Flay’s Southwestern Burger that is topped with a roasted poblano chile, homemade queso sauce and blue corn tortilla chips. Yum!
- Tip 2: Take a cue from Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto, stock up on the wagyu and pork for your burger, and top it off with pickled onions and japanese cucumbers.
- Tip 3: Add some Italian flair Mario Batali-style, adding roasted tomatoes, homemade parmesan crisp, caramelized onions and shiitake mushrooms to your burger, topped with chibatta bread.
We’d love to hear from you about how you use Serve so your guests contribute to your barbecue costs – or any other summer activity for that matter, as well as your favorite burger tips. So invite your friends, fire up the grill and get paid back quick and easily.
